Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit

Opened July 1, 2006, Mercy's Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit is located on Mercy's third floor. Patients in this unit are still acute care patients, the same as patients on the medical/surgical floors, but they have been identified as benefiting from services provided by the Inpatient Rehab Unit staff. Here are some of its features:

  • 12 beds (four private rooms and four semi-private rooms)
  • Separate nursing station
  • Dedicated medical director (minimum 20 hours/week)
  • Will have its own dining area and therapy space
  • Exam rooms and staff offices
  • 24-hour rehab nursing care and 24-hour physician coverage

The Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit serves people who have suffered a loss of function due to:

  • stroke
  • multiple/complicated orthopedic injuries
  • brain injury
  • degenerative neurological disorders (such as Parkinson's Disease, polyneuropathy, multiple sclerosis, etc.)
  • spinal cord injuries
  • amputations
  • major multiple trauma
  • other serious and debilitating conditions that result in loss of independence in self-care and mobility

Our team works closely with physicians, patient and families to determine whether inpatient rehabilitation services will provide a benefit and opportunity for greater independence for each person.
