Mercy’s Youth Volunteer Program Receives Generous Grant From Umpqua Partners
Mercy’s Youth Volunteer Program recently received a generous grant of $5,000 from Umpqua Partners. The funds will be used to support two Day Camps each summer for the next three years. Day Camps are geared towards helping young people make better decisions for their future through real-life experiences. Mercy’s Youth Volunteer program has offered Day Camps for students in grades K-5, two times during the summer. Participants pay a small fee to help offset the costs of supplies and materials. Mercy’s Youth Volunteer program applied for Umpqua Partner’s grant funding with a goal of offering the Day Camps tuition-free and ultimately serving more community students. Each camp gives leadership experience to older teens in the Youth Volunteer program and offers younger student’s information about the human body, while promoting personal care, making positive choices for your health and focusing on prevention. “We typically serve about 40 elementary students during our two days of Day Camp,” states Rose Zoellner, Mercy’s Youth Volunteer coordinator. “We are excited that by having this funding, we will be able to provide the Day Camps tuition free, and have more students participate in this fun and educational program.” For more information about this grant or Mercy’s Youth Volunteer Day Camps, please call Kathleen Nickel at 541-677-2423 or kathleennickel@chiwest.com To learn more about Mercy Youth Volunteers: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Mercy-Medical- Center-Youth-Volunteer-Program-Roseburg- OR/163633087033868
