Mercy
Medical Center at a Glance...
From its very beginning in 1909, Mercy's mission was to become
a community-based medical center that met the greater medical
needs of the citizens of Douglas County.
After a successful community fundraising campaign, the original
Mercy hospital was completed and dedicated on February 22, 1909,
and the Sisters of Mercy began operation of the hospital the next
day.
In 1971, Jacquetta Taylor, a Sister of Mercy and Mercy's CEO
at the time, followed a farmer's dirt road to a hilltop overlooking
a 90-acre site and caught a vision for the Mercy Medical Center
we know today. In 1977 a new 105,000 square-foot Mercy Medical
Center was opened. Since that time, Mercy has continued to grow
to meet the medical needs of the residents of Douglas County.
Today, Mercy is in the midst of completing an expansion project
that will add 90,000 total additional square feet of space to
improve patient comfort and staff efficiencies, as well as enhancing
its emergency, imaging and surgical services.
But more important than the building are the 1,200 staff members
and 300 volunteers who are the heart of Mercy. Experts in their
fields, it is their care, concern and compassion that truly make
your experience at Mercy one-of-a-kind.
